Dragon Scale Flooring's Luxury Vinyl Flooring FAQ

One of the things we love most here at Dragon Scale Flooring is answering our client's questions, and helping people understand flooring and the work we do, a little better than they did when they came through the door. Really, this is one of the biggest parts of our job, because we answer a lot of questions over the course of the week.

In all those questions, we noticed that a few have a tendency to pop up time and time again, especially about luxury vinyl flooring. So, we thought we'd streamline things a bit and just get those questions' answers nailed down right here and now, with this quick luxury vinyl flooring FAQ. Here's the lowdown on the basics:

Is Luxury Vinyl Flooring Waterproof?

With so many materials out there, many people tend to confuse certain ones with others. This is often the case with LVT and engineered hardwood flooring. Engineered hardwood is not waterproof, and is actually easily damaged by water.

LVT, however, is completely waterproof and perfect for below-grade applications, or for use in water-heavy rooms like the kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room.

How Long Does it Last?

This is a question we actually love to hear, because it is an extremely important consideration when budgeting for your floors. The longer a floor lasts, the more money you save through not having to replace it as often. Luxury vinyl flooring that has been properly and professionally installed and well maintained can be expected to last between ten and twenty years, depending upon the amount of foot traffic it receives.

What Does it Take to Properly Maintain it?

This is another super-savvy question we love to hear. The short answer is "no", there isn't really anything special you have to do to maintain the floors. Keeping up your Luxury vinyl flooring isn't all that different from keeping up any other hard-surface flooring. You basically just have to sweep regularly, and occasionally use a damp mop for deeper cleaning.
