Why consider laminate for your flooring needs?

Why consider laminate for your flooring needs?

If you want a durable, hard surface that does a great job of imitating solid wood without the cost, you may wish to consider laminate.  As this flooring option comes in snap-together planks that are installed over a cushioned underlayment, it’s possible to lay it over certain (stable) existing coverings, except for carpeting.  Its water repellent and moisture-resistant qualities make it easy to maintain and it does a great job imitating hardwood or even tile.  For these reasons, as well as recent improvements to its waterproofing qualities, it continues to be a popular choice for homeowners.  Drop by our showroom today and let our skilled staff at Dragon Scale Flooring, Laurel, MD walk you through the many hardcover solutions available.

Keeping your laminate in tip-top shape
While laminate cannot be re-sanded in case of damage, there are various steps you can take that will help keep it looking great for years.  Below are tips and suggestions that will ensure you derive maximum enjoyment from your wood-like floors.

Use proper protection
  • Wipe up spills right away to avoid long term water damage:
  • Place a mat under pets’ water and food bowls.
  • If wet through, switch to a dry mat.
  • Consider a drop cloth or tablecloth under baby’s highchair to minimize spills.

Reduce likelihood of damage

  • Place felt and/or glider protectors under furniture and chair legs. This helps prevent scratching over time and makes moving furniture easier.
  • Avoid walking with spiky heels, cleated sport shoes, or damaging footwear.
  • Keep shoes and boots on mats by exit points. This helps keep mud, snow, grit from tracking in.
  • Keep pet’s nails trimmed to avoids damaging your laminate’s protective coating.

Maintain regularly

  • Sweep and/or vacuum regularly to limit dust and gritty residue from building up.
  • Use a mild soap and water solution and use a damp (not wet) mop.
  • Keep away from waxy or soapy cleaners and acidic cleaning products (with vinegar or lemon juice).
